MDLSX

Dir. Enrico Casagrande, Daniela Nicolò Włochy

MDLSX is Silvia Calderoni’s one-woman-show, in which she’s using her personal experiences as the starting point of the story. “Are you a boy or a girl?” – the question is constantly heard throughout the show, becoming a metaphor for forced choice from which it is still difficult to liberate oneself. In a world governed by binary divisions the freedom to make decisions about one’s identity, sexuality and self-determination is very limited. Silvia Calderoni and her protagonist look at the Greek mythology and queer theory, and ask: can I be simply myself, without choosing between the genders? Can I simply be? MDLSX is a powerful contribution to the discussion about the freedom and right to self-determine one’s identity and sexuality. The strength of Calderoni’s message also lies in the self-referential nature of the production, which, as the artist notes, “is not, however, a form of therapy for me. I do not like therapeutic theatre. MDLSX is more like a party, every night. It is a collective coming out for the audience and for me.”

“Calderoni herself is wild, talented and charismatic enough to hold the audience’s attention for the whole 80 minutes.”

MOTUS – Italian performance collective founded in 1991 by Enrico Casagrande and Daniela Nicolò in Rimini as Opere dell’ Ingegno. It has been operating under its current name since 1992. Performances, directed and written by Casagrande and Nicolo, are often based on the artists’ personal experiences. In their productions they touch upon taboo topics, often returning to the subject of gender. In their earlier work they often referred to the oeuvres of Pier Paolo Pasolini and Rainer Werner Fassbinder. Their productions have been shown at the most important theatre festivals across the world. The presentation of MDLSX at the Dialog-Wrocław Festival will be MOTUS’ first appearance in Poland.

MOTUS ON THEATRE:
Our theatre does not take place opposite the audience, it takes place with the audience and that is why we have to precisely define our relationship with the spectators. Each text is examined with regard to integration between reality and theatre.
